How wonderful that we are now able to go to art galleries and museums online from our own lounge chair or sofa. I will show you several links here and show you how to explore for others on your own, depending on what type of art you are looking for. And it is amazing the new forms that are available.
General Art Galleries and Museums
- Google Arts and Culture: This site provides you with an abundance of choices, and I maybe should stop right here because there is just so much to explore. It has a vast collection of high-resolution images from museums worldwide. There are Virtual tours of famous galleries. You just find a city and a museum you want to explore and you are there!
- The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) Open Access: MOMA is a source that provides access to the extensive and massive collection of artworks, within this public domain.
- The Louvre Online Collections: To be able to explore all of this from your own home is awesome. I may never get to Paris, but to be able to see it here is beyond words. And here at home there is no closing time, and my feet don’t hurt.
Creative Platforms for Artists
- DeviantArt: I never heard of this before, and now I can explore it and learn. It is a massive community of independent artists showcasing digital and traditional artwork.
- Behance: Aain, this is another form of art that I have never seen or explored. It is a professional art-sharing platform by Adobe, featuring high-quality portfolios in illustration, and graphic designs.
- ArtStation: This is yet another hub for digital artists, concept artists, and 3D designers.
Art Inspiration and Curation
In our modern world of the Internet, there are also many other sites to explore where you can create or display your own art.
- Pinterest: A visually driven platform where users can share artwork collections. Just click on the sub-heading Explore and you can look at all of it or you can join if you would like to share some of our own.
- Instagram: If you have Instagram, you can use hashtags to search. Simply enter hashtags like #DigitalArt, #FineArt, #Illustration, #AbstractArt and you will find contemporary artists, especially the Newer Ones that have yet to be discovered.
- WikiArt: As you would only expect from Wiki, this is a comprehensive online encyclopedia of visual art.
Community-Based Art Sharing
- Reddit r/Art: This is another place to find art. A highly active community where users post and discuss different forms of artwork.
I have been very impressed by what is available in the way of sharing and creating what is right at my fingertips. There are so many incredible avenues and mediums for the expression of Art available to us all.
Washington DC: The Smithsonian Museum should certainly be added here, although I haven’t found any online access to anything. But if you visit our nation’s capital, walking tours will take you to the monuments and other free attractions, and the site shows you all of the available special tours. I hope you will find enjoyment with these sites and enjoy all of them that interest you.
Also, digital trips to all of our National Parks can give you amazing pictures of them without having to even leave your home. But if you are inclined to take a trip, there are wonderful accommodations in or nearby the parks. One such unique accommodation is the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams, AZ which is adjacent to the Grand Canyon Railroad, which will take you to the Park for a day excursion.
