Just turned on the TV to see the horrible news of the helicopter crash which took the life of Kobe Bryant and others. He was such an amazing basketball star and idol for so many sports fans and children too. They just said he had played for 20 years.
Additionally, I just heard that his 14-year-old daughter, Gianna, was with him on the helicopter. This is a double sad. She was an up-and-coming star too. Such sadness for this family and us as fans. My prayers go out to them all.
I am not much of a basketball fan, but his name is one that I know. And from what I do know of the sport, he will be sorely missed. He seemed to have reached out to the young and contributed to the community in a positive manner.
Finding positive images is important in this time of so much negativity. So much violence. Perhaps percentage-wise it is not greater than it has always been. But with the 24/7 media dwelling on every negative occurrence happening, it just seems greater.
The Positive Influence of Kobe Bryant
Maybe with this loss, we can step back and focus on all his positive acts and can try to do our part in whatever small way we can. And maybe do it with just a friendly smile and “hello” to a stranger in the supermarket. Or maybe by lending a helping hand to someone less fortunate than ourselves.
People say I have a bleeding heart and that I am too naive and easily fooled. If that is so, I am happy to have that trait. To be selfish is beyond me. I cannot enjoy my day or my holiday if I personally know someone needs a helping hand. However, in my page about Catfish Impostors, I tell about being scammed by someone, who was not who or what he said he was. Although this situation put me in a temporary financial situation, I could not have enjoyed my Christmas had I not helped.
While losing such an outstanding player and citizen as Kobe Bryant is certainly a sad situation, I truly hope that his followers will step up to try to fill his shoes, not only on the court, but in life as well. We need more like him. If everyone just tries to do one positive thing tomorrow as a tribute to him, just maybe we can start an avalanche of positive attitudes. Maybe we can quell some of the negativity and hatred. Make America a safe place again without putting down others who think or do differently than we do.
