I am certainly not qualified to evaluate Presidential Debates based on the merits of the candidate’s replies to the moderator’s questions. However, I would like to offer my opinions based on pure observation.
Last night’s presentation highlighted one thing to me – the vast difference in the candidate’s personalities. There is little doubt that Trump is an extrovert. Biden, on the other hand, seems more like an introvert. Just the difference in their personalities was evident in their demeanor – by their energy.
We know Biden is getting up in years, but I felt he was cognizant of the situations and the required answers. He is not, however, very articulate, and never has been. Biden has always had some basic speech difficulties. And, he has never been a great orator but has certainly gained the knowledge of governing through many, many years coming up the ladder. With his experiences and knowledge gained in Congress and as Vice-President, he is well-prepared for his role as President. He has the knowledge but not the forceful personality to be a strong leader.
Trump, on the other hand, responded loud and clear, but with questionable knowledge or solutions to the questions. He can shout loud and clear about nothing for hours on end and has done that for these four years since he left office. He always has someone else ready to blame for any questionable situations he faced during his Presidency. Last night was the first time I heard that Nancy Pelosi was responsible for the insurrection of the Capitol. I don’t know where or how he comes to some of his concclusions.
Presidential Debates – Give us Better Qualified Leaders
My bottom line of this observation is that we certainly should have two much more qualified people to lead our country. I don’t understand why each political party is stuck submitting these two candidates to us to vote on. For so many elections, it is a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils.
Why are we stuck with these two choices? Why aren’t the parties searching out stronger leaders? In the case of the Republicans, I think it is because no one wants to face retribution from Trump for standing against him. With the Democrats, one plausible candidate is gay.
Pete Buttigieg is a strong leader, as he has displayed in his role as Secretary of Transportation. He stood up nobly to recent questioning by Congress. He is young, vibrant, articulate, and well-educated. Is his personal lifestyle any different than the lifestyle displayed by Trump, based on recent legal issues. My only interest is how the man will lead the country.
Presidential Debates should be about We The People
With Trump, I feel it is all about himself. He wants to be King, not President. It is not about the people he is there to represent. His style is to intimidate those under and around him. He stated last night that our borders are extremely dangerous. Well, I live relatively close to a border crossing area, however, our community is no more violent than other large cities. He stated that the immigrants are taking jobs. Yes, maybe they are because they are willing to work hard at manual jobs to pay for their freedom. Working hard seems to be a poor quality for many younger Americans. But I digress.
We need a leader who will stand strong to protect our country and our freedoms. All of ours. Not just the privileged wealthy. And not someone who has come up through the ranks but is now too old to stand strong against our enemies. Why are we not being given a better choice?
