We are offering Protection from the Coronavirus from this vendor who has a supply of masks and other items to get us thru this epidemic. To mask or not to mask seems to be the biggest question these days. Now that some people have been vaccinated, the trend seems more and more toward the “not to mask”. Ironically, many of them are the same people who have chosen also not to get vaccinated.
I read an article in our neighborhood newsletter that pretty much said it all. It started with a mother posting a comment that her grade-school daughter had come home with a note from her teacher advising the parents that one of the students had come down with Covid. She stated that she immediately tested her daughter with a home test and it showed positive. She tested the rest of the family and they were negative. Just to be on the safe side, the next morning the whole family went to the local drug store for a more complete test. The whole family tested positive.
The Pros and Cons
These comments in the newsletter set off a whole tirade of comments about Covid. Some were supporting the need for the students to wear masks and others were against it. Some even ranted that making a child wear a mask was child cruelty. There were those who supported the Scientific findings and recommendations and others called it BS.
I am old enough to remember back when there was a polio epidemic in the 1940’s, with everyone needing and wanting to get vaccinations. It baffles me that there is such a controversy these days about getting a vaccination which the scientists have recommended. Some just feel that this is just another form of “flu” bug that comes around every year. They seem to think the death statistics are all fiction.
Yes, it is true that the statistics are showing fewer cases and that they seem to be milder. The death statistics have decreased also, but this virus is still out there. And, yes, it is true that some folks who have had the vaccination have also gotten the “bug”, but only a minor case. But it has always been my policy – it is better to be safe than sorry. It has stood by me all these years and I am almost 86 now.
But at the same time, we are seeing a higher number of new cases since school started with the students in some districts not wearing masks. One of the people who posted a response to the above was a nurse here in a pediatric ICU. Her comment was that she hoped she would not see any of the children in her unit.
