Welcome to my recipes from the past. These are recipes that have been in the family from my Grandmother, Mother, Aunts, Great Aunts, and other Family members. After all, aren’t those the best recipes and dishes. Things we grew up with and enjoyed. This is the menu for those recipes which are just starting but will grow over time.
My Summer Salads
When it is this hot, I lose my appetite so really all I want is something quick and cold. And I don’t want to fuss with chopping and dicing or shopping. I tend to throw things together with what I have on hand and not what is listed in fancy cookbooks. See them here.
Never Fail Icing
This truly is an easy recipe to get a good quick topping for a small pan or sheet cake. Only 4 simple ingredients. Go here to find what they are.
Old Black Cake
This is also a quick and easy recipe handed down to me from my Grandmother. It dates back to the Depression Era when ingredients were scarce. See recipe here
Spaetzels
The first recipe that I have put on here is one for my Grandmother’s Spaetzels. These are unique. I have never seen a recipe that is similar to the way she made them. And the way she taught me to make them. A Spaetzel is sort of a cross between a noodle and a dumpling. And, it is served as a side dish. We usually make them with a pork roast and sauerkraut, which is typically our New Year’s Day dinner. It is suppose to bring good luck in the year ahead. For the recipe go here.
