The Gloaming. The brief period of time between twilight and darkness when mood, spirit, and light merge. A short period of time known as The Gloaming.
It is an absolutely perfect time, which can only be savored for those brief moments before it is gone. The time between sunset and darkness or sunrise and daylight.
It is such a brief time and so special that pictures don’t completely convey the spirit of the moment. Such a brief moment to take a deep breath and recall the events of the day or dream about those to come in the evening. A period of complete tranquility. Of total calm.
Perhaps that is why it is the name of my absolutely perfect wine i– The Gloaming. I am told that it was crafted especially for a noted steakhouse and appears at the top of their wine list for $400 per bottle. It is perfectly paired with steak or prime rib.
So how does a poor old soul such as me come to know this “perfect” wine?
By the miracle of my wonderful Wine of the Month Club and the dismay of this country’s horrible pandemic. You see our amazing wine shoppers happened to be in the right spot when the restaurant canceled their shipment because of the shutdown. And so, through the gloom of this pandemic, we were able to enjoy this marvelous ray of sunshine.
Through this dark time, we all must continue to look for the rays of sunshine where we find them. We will get through this dark time, but until we do, we need to look for those brief periods of The Gloaming.
